Transportation - Subways, cabs and buses

6 subway lines crisscross Buenos Aires. They run from Monday to Saturday from 5 am to 11.00 pm and from 8 am to 10 pm on Sundays. The fare is fixed ($2,50) and must be paid at the ticket-office on each station. Each pass is good for going anywhere in the city and allows transfers.

Another way to move around Buenos Aires are
taxis. For security reasons it is advisable to always hire the service by phone (radio-taxis). Base fare is $7.30 and it increases $0.73 cents every 200 meters. From March 2011 begins the nocturne fare (de 10 pm to 6 am): the base will cost $8.70 and it increases $0.87 cents. At the end of the trip you will have to pay what the meter located to the right of the windshield indicates.

Nevertheless, the main features of the city are its
buses. Over 110 bus lines permanently go all around the city. The fare within the city is either $1.10 or $1.25 depending on the distance of your trip. You are advised to have spare change in coins when taking a bus, as the fare must be paid on machine that takes coins only.
